Rich Froning & Crossfit Mayhem: More Than Champs
You can find videos of Rich Froning anywhere on the internet. Winning the CrossFit Games; training; what he eats; what he likes to do in his downtime; you name it. When we visited Rich at his home of Cookeville, Tennesse we didn't want to stick a camera in his face and get more content of what is already out there. We wanted to find out what his gym means to the community of Cookeville and what Cookeville means to them.
Having the fittest man in history as the face of your gym is great. But the focus still needs to be on the people who come through the door everyday. What you offer them, how they respond and the sort of community that builds.
We caught up with a few of the regular faces at Mayhem to share their take on things.
Community at CrossFit Mayhem
Tavis chats to Darren and Todd at CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville Tennessee to find out what they think is important in a gym and a community.
The wider world know CrossFit Mayhem to be the gym of Rich Froning, the 4 times CrossFit Games champ and current Team CrossFit Games champs, but Mayhem doesn't rest on that success. At the end of the day it's always about building a community.
Matt Vincent: Highland Games World Champion
Matt Vincent, aka The Drifta Lifta, is a mutliple Highland Games World Champion and general badass. He developed as a track and field athlete at LSU before going on to compete as a strongman and a powerlifter. This background and training knowledge gave Matt the perfect base to compete in the Highland Games.
Along the way though Matt has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry such as: Mark Bell, Jesse Burdick, Kelly Starrett and Gary Frank just to name a few.
Learning from so many great minds gave Matt the philosophy that 'turning up and acting like the new guy' was probably the best way to get better. In fact he has developed a web series devoted to that thinking: The Drifta Lifta.
RedCity is built on learning and adapting with a broad range of knowledge, so working with Matt just made sense.
We caught up with Matt at home in Louisiana to Drifta Lifta the Drifta Lifta himself and find out his approach to training, competing and life in general.

Faction SC: Teaching People how to be People
Faction Strength & Conditioning in Memphis, TN is one of the most balanced and well developed gyms out there. We may be biased, but we feel that's because they focus on the same thing we do: teaching people how to be people.
The best progress, community and results come from understanding individual needs and helping those individuals become better people, not just better athletes.
